3 Things

1. There is a buzz and vibe at the Well like I have never seen. People are excited to bring their friends and are engaged in what is taking place. The conversations I am having after our services are blowing me away! God is truly moving.

2. We are launching all of our community groups next week. Wanna meet people? Sunday is a tough time to do that because it is so busy/crazy. Community groups are the place for connection. Stay tuned for info to be released this week.

3. Is there a more fun time of year to live in Tallahassee? We want the Well experience to be just as exciting (shoot…more exciting) than everything else that gets us pumped about the fall season.

Just 3 things I was thinking about this morning. Greater freakin things!!! Here we go.

Sunday Night Thoughts

What a great day!

Our morning service is off to a great start. We are seeing lots of new faces. I am excited to see 11:05 grow and grow!

Today we talked about how following Christ should not be seen as a noble, rare act by people who claim to be believers. It should be the only response of anyone who carries the title of Christian. I am nowhere near the expert in this area, but following Christ should be what I am about. He never calls us to be Christians. He calls us to be His disciples.

The night service was packed tonight. Scott leading Marvelous Light at the end of the service had a great response. I love the line, my dead heart now is beating. That IS the Gospel!

I had someone tell me that it was their first time at the Well and the only time they can remember not looking at their watch during Church. Sweet.

Meeting people who are at Church for the first time in their life never gets old. There were several today.

I am thankful for everyone who came to Godby High School today to be at the Well. I hope it was a great experience. We want Church to be truthful, exciting, and fun!

Get the word out about your Church!

I am beat and going to bed. Happy College football week. You should be more excited about Jesus and your Church than football, but it will be fun!

I’m Just Saying…

Ever noticed that if someone leaves your Church for another in town…they are: Church hoppers, consumers, disloyal, just following their boyfriend, etc?

If someone leaves a Church in town and comes to yours…that is perfectly fine. The red carpet is laid out.

I’m just saying…

Random Thursdays

Seeing how many have responded to the Michael Vick drama has been very interesting. As believers, aren’t we the definition of people who have been given another chance? I am not a fan of his in terms of football (anti Va Tech bias as a Miami fan…hate the Eagles even more), but I hope he is able to be around some Christian teammates who can love him. Come on people! As Christians we should think different. Consequences for actions? Of course. That is very Biblical. We also believe in a chance to live a new life.

Speaking of football, Sports is something I use to connect with my friends who do not know Christ. Football is always something we can discuss, and inviting people to meet you at a Sports Bar to watch a game is a great way to build relationships in a safe, non-threatening, environment. All we do is hangout and talk trash about our teams. I am not seen by them as “out of touch, can’t relate to me, religious weirdo,” but their football buddy. They know what I believe. I do not hide that. It just does wonders when you are strangely normal to them.

What is a hobby or interest that you share with friends that you are not utilizing? No strings attached. No hidden agenda. Just being with people and showing them you value them as friends. They might not come to Church, but they will certainly fish, play 18 holes, go to kick-boxing, watch your favorite show or the game with you.

A few randoms

I forget what it was, but Tommy wanted something yesterday and we said NO. His response…”Yes way Jose!” How do you respond to that as a Dad besides laughing?

This is our second week of having a morning and evening service. It would be MUCH easier to do back to back services. Coming home for a few hours, watching baseball/relaxing, and then turning it back on at 5:30 is exhausting. The time slot of our 5:30pm service is very intentional, so we will just get adjusted! I am looking forward to seeing 11:05 grow.

We are starting a series next week called “We’re just not that into you.” It is gonna rock. Just so you know.

Watching VH1 or E always brings a question to my mind….”how and why is he/she famous?”

Preach It

I am nowhere close to an expert in the preaching department, but I often get asked how I develop my talks every week.

I have a pretty simple formula:

1. Know the text. I am not a life-coach, or self-help guru. My responsibility is to tell you what the Bible says. This part takes a lot of time because I do not want to screw it up! All preachers MUST know their text above all other things. This requires major book reading, and listening to sermons during the week.

2. Preach the Gospel in every text. The whole Bible is about Jesus and His conquering of Satan, Sin, and Death. I want people to know that they do not have to stay in sin when through the cross they have been rescued from its grip and power.

3. Remind people of our primary task here on earth…to make His name known. The last thing Christ said before He left was that we would be His witnesses and that He would give us the power to do it! I will remind people of our calling to follow Christ in the area of being with people who do not know Him…EVERY WEEK.

The rest of my process is that I try to be honest, real, and current. I also want it to make sense. A goal I have when speaking is that the person who is at Church for the first time ever…can understand the Gospel, and the life-long Christian can also be challenged. If you preach from the Bible, that is pretty simple to accomplish.

Oh yea, if you aren’t praying your rump off during the week…you might as well stay home on Sunday.

Preach It Fellas.
